Information on data privacy

1. Research object and purpose of the survey: The aim of this survey is to evaluate how students assess their interdisciplinary skills and the importance of these skills for labour market success. The survey is part of the research project "The Swiss Labour Market in the Digital Transformation" funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and conducted by the Chair of Labour Economics of the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Basel. The project aims to gain comprehensive insights into the determinants of career choice as well as labour market success of Swiss students. It will also examine how the courses offered at universities help to prepare students for the requirements of the labour market. Based on the study, concrete measures can be derived to improve university education and the career success of university graduates. 2. Information collected with the survey: The following information will be collected in this survey: Self-assessment of own skills; assessment of how important specific skills are for labour market success; assessment of the ability to learn specific skills during within your studies; information on your studies programme (Master/Doctorate, field of study, semester), previous degrees and your person (gender, origin, grade of university entrance diploma, origin and education of parents, questions about personality such as willingness to take risks).

3. How we guarantee your anonymity: The initiator and administrator of this survey is the Chair of Labour Economics of the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Basel. The survey data is collected with the software account (Qualtrics) of the professorship in anonymous form.

Contacting: You have received the invitation to this survey from the Student Services via an email address to which the Chair of Labour Economics does not have access. The Student Services have assigned you a personal but anonymous code in the email. This code does not contain any information that allows the Chair of Labour Economics or outsiders to draw conclusions about your person. A code-specific survey link was assigned to this code, which you also received with the email. The code assigned to you will automatically appear in the data collected from you. We at the Chair of Labour Economics do not know which code has been assigned to you. Therefore, we do not know which survey data belong to which person. Your anonymity is therefore completely guaranteed.

Data collection: The survey does not contain any personal identifying characteristics. It is completely anonymous from the perspective of the Chair of Labour Economics. The latter only observes the assigned code, but does not know which person it belongs to.

Data separation: Only Student Services know which person has been assigned which code. However, Student Services does not have access to the survey data at any time. The Chair of Labour Economics is the only one with access to the survey data. These, in turn, only contain the anonymous code. It is not possible to draw any conclusions about your person.

Linking the survey data with course data from MOnA: In order to be able to examine how students' expectations affect their educational decisions, it is necessary to link the survey data with information on university courses taken. If you agree to this, Student Services will link your course data to the code you have been assigned and deliver these anonymised data to the Chair of Labour Economics. These data only contains the code but no person-identifying characteristics.

Data analysis: The data analysis is conducted exclusively by the Chair of Labour Economics. The professorship uses the anonymous code to link the anonymous survey data with the anonymised course data. This guarantees that the data is exclusively analysed in anonymised form and that no conclusions can be drawn about your identity. The Student Services, however, have no access to the survey data or the anonymised linked data.

4. Your rights: Regarding your personal data, you have the right to request information about your stored data and, if necessary, to correction, blocking or deletion of this data. Your permission to store your personal data and to use it for linking the survey data with the course data is voluntary and can be withdrawn at any time. If you wish to request information or withdraw your consent, please contact datenschutz@unibas.ch. The data protection team will ensure that you can exercise these rights while maintaining your anonymity with respect to the Chair of Labour Economics.
